Bottom feeder

I took this picture on my way to work today. I didn't ride my bike because I had to go and shop for a new refrigerator as mine konked out. The freezer part still works but not the regular part. I haven't had this one too long. This winter I came home briefly from taking care of my mom (who was going through cancer treatment) to find that my refrigerator had konked out. It was a mess. I was so stressed out. I just wanted to come home and crash, but I had to remove all of the food and clean up the mess before I could return to my mom. So one of my friends gave me another old one as he was just using it in his garage to keep beer in.

This time I decided to get a new one. I've never owned a new refrigerator. Of course the new trend is stainless steel. I've always liked stainless sinks. I decided that I didn't want a stainless refrigerator for three reasons. They are more expensive and are black on the sides usually, I couldn't find a stainless one that had the freezer on the bottom, and they get finger prints on them really easy. That just won't work for me.

My mom told me that if she were to buy a new refrigerator she'd get one with the freezer on the bottom and so did my boss. I was just going to get a regular one but then I got to thinking about this. I'm almost 6 feet tall. I almost never get into the freezer section but I always get into the regular part. So every time I'd want to get something out of it to eat I'd have to get it from the bottom.. What the heck!

So I decided to get one that had the freezer on the bottom and the regular part that you always get into on the top despite the extra cost. If you think about it, it only makes sense. You want it designed ergo?.. It's going to cost you. I think it will be money well spent. I won't have to bend over all of the time.

Anway, I like it when someone draws a picture in the dust of a back window of a car like this. It's a very nice looking fish, but It might be a bottom feeder...

Shoot my house

This is like painting three targets on your house when you live in North Idaho, but it gets my award for best wildlife graphics on a single family dwelling in the deer, elk and moose categories.

I took this picture on my way skiing today. That's Mt. Spokane ski area in the background and not where I usually go as there are several places to ski here, but this picture captures how I felt this morning when I went skiing on such a beautiful blue bird day. (after I've had my Postum of course! :)

Artisan bread

I don't know what to think. Sometimes I wish I lived in France or Italy or even Seattle. The food choices here just suck so bad. To Safeway's credit they are making great bagels. For that I'm thankful. And for some reason people here are crazy about sourdough. I'm not so much. I don't mind it, but it's not the only bread I think we should value, and depsite the fact that Safeway sells a few choices of hummus, they only sell one kind of pita bread and it is way over priced and it sucks. I really need to teach myself how to make pita bread.

So I'm looking over the bread choices at Safeway and I decide to buy some ciabatta. I get it home and pull it out of the bag and it had "ARTISAN" written on it in flour. It should have said "CIABATTA" but either way it was tacky I thought. Perhaps it's intended to make the local stepford wives feel "artistic" in their domestic roles.

Conference room schedule

There was a small flat computer screen up in one of the hospital corridors with this graphic on it. I had to get a snap as I love portraits and this is one of the most compelling images I've seen on this trip.

Here is a sign at a school yard in Montana. I wonder if they hired an artist from the University to make this one?

Flying tiger

I went skiing today in total fog. As I made my way to the race course It was a total white out and I got vertigo going over a riser. Little dropplets of mist would get on my goggles and make visibility impossible, At the race course they were just starting to open it to the public. The start is up on a hump. You could see the first gate and part of the second but then the hill drops away and beyond that was nothing but fog. So I decided to run it and just look to the next gate to go around. I ended up getting the 4th fastest time, but one of my rivals beat me.

Here is a photo of a Suburu that I took on my way home. Notice the little bombs on the rear fender. Whoever did this gets my award for best home-made vehicle graphics. There are some WWII pilots rolling over in their graves.
