Wild Horse Island Flathead Lake picture

Here's a picture I took from Wild Horse Island the other night with Flathead Lake in the background. I actually saw the wild horses. Well the aren't too wild as they will walk right up to you. I saw the new baby horse too that is so well known now in these parts. They recently put some new horses on the island not realizing that one of them was pregnant. I got a snap shot of it and might post that later.

Click on this picture and make it bigger. It will make you feel like you're up there with me.

I hope you post the baby horse pic. :) This one is amazing though. What a wonderful location. You're lucky to be able to enjoy that view so often.

You almost see that view as much as me these days! That's my first time up there this year.

We haven't made it to the Island for a few years. Matt had a bike accident and broke a couple ribs 2 weeks ago. And got a concussion... he's just now feeling like paddling again. Your pic really makes me feel like I am standing there.

My Gosh! That hurts! A concussion!..? Was he wearing a helmet? I guess you can still get concussion even with a helmet on and I admit I don't always wear one on my cruiser which seems to be my bike of choice lately... But that sounds like a very bad accident. Hope he recovers soon.

Thanks yes he's doing a lot better. Finally.

I know; it was rather freakish bad. No helmet as he was at work about one block away so he didn't bother. I guess it was a hard lesson.

It's that one time that you need the helmet that you have to have it on. I admit that I don't always wear one on my cruiser, so I'm guilty too, but thankfully the one time I needed a helmet I had it on. A car turned into me, and I got launched upside down into the gravel shoulder on my head. Had I not had the helmet on I would have been scalped, and most likely would have broken my neck the doctor said as the helmet supported my landing... I probably would have been a quad.. I could see gravel spraying off of my helmet as I landed upside down on my head.

It really doesn't take much of an impact to crack your head and have a brain injury. I think of all of those times I rode my bike from Missoula to Flathead..., and I went down a few times. Just lucky.

That is a great photo Don. :)

I love the gnarled branches of that old tree!

Don, your story of your accident is just plain scary. I too am glad you had on the helmet. We ski with helmets so... yeah what you wrote makes total sense. And he knows it too.

There was a car involved-Matt was trying to avoid them. After he went down they just swerved around him and kept on going even tho' he was lying motionless on the pavement.

I wouldn't think of skiing without a helmet. After I got one I forgot to bring it one day, got down the road a ways and turned around and went back to get it.

For some reason we think differently about cycling when it comes to helmets, but like I said, it's that one time when you need it that you have to have it on.
